ReLook, ReView
After reading Cesar Millan's Book - Cesar's Way. I relooked into our handling and existing routine schedule for Ben. Also not forgetting the continuous effort to educate my family who will be the next person to me who handles Ben when I am off to work.
1. I acknowledged the importance of calm assertive energy within me and should 100% displayed in order to be a strong pack leader, also understanding calm submissive energy. By far, Ben is in the lineage of show dogs and by far there is minimum problem but rather I should impress him more with my strong leadership.
2. I will scheduled out the Exercise, Discipline and Affection .. in this order. The importance of exercise, even I was told to walk the dog daily, now I really appreciate the advises and the work we have done so far and should look into 2 session a day (30mins each). Mastering walks is easy for me, this could be due to my previous influence of obedience training. Having a good sense of timing and watching postures.
3. The order of nose, eyes & ears of communicating with dogs.
4. We tend to relax too a little on certain rules, boundaries and limitation. Maybe there is something we did not set clearly. I tried to recall all the past days and have be observing and reviewing the rules boundaries and limitation set at home and outside. I was lucky that my mentor knew about them and already highlighted to me certain areas such as using 2 types of leash for walks, Ben will walk the way I want him to when he is on his show leash. He will get his freedom to move around and explore the environment, the nature when he is on the normal nylon collar and leash. The only area, maybe will be he is sometimes playful by jumping up on people, especially when we return home. Our return over excites him and we will look into a better rules, boundaries and limitation for this area. I am pretty sure this area can be solved with 1 week. The grooming table is not a playground for Ben, it mean some kind of business and we all observed by it.
5. As I always tell friends that I do not fancy dresses, booties, caps, or anything extra to be put on my dog. In a way I am trying to tell them, I do not humanizing dogs. Other then this, the way we carry dogs also must be observed. I respect the mother nature that dogs are dogs, there is totally no such need to humanizing them "babying them, treating them like a human". We can share our love and affection the correct way instead of affection/affection/affection or affection/exercise or affection/exercise/discipline. The rotunie sequence have to set right - Exercise, Discipline, Affection. I am not trying "not to love" Ben but rather I am giving him affection (such as tummy rubs) at the right time and with correct amount and correct ways.
