Why I Like Show Dogs & Dog Shows?
Sometime back, some forum members from the Dogsforum.sg asked me:
Why I like about showing miniature schnauzers?
I love the breed and showing is the best way to gain more knowledge and experience about Miniature Schnauzers. Some say to the show ring is the best place to prove your knowledge and experience. If a person think he is good, the proving ground should be the ring and not over the forum debates (be it conformation shows or obedience trails).
Is there a cash reward if your dog win?
There is no direct cash reward for winning. All I care about is to learn and enjoy. Win is good. No win is not a lost, cause every show is about gaining knowledge and experience.
Why I prefer a show dog?
In a show ring, dogs are shown and compete among each other under the judging of the conformation to breed standard. General Appearance, Size, Proportion, Substance, Head, Eyes, Ears, Muzzle, Bite, Neck, Topline, Body, Tail, Forequarters, Hindquarters, Coat, Color, Gait and Temperament are the stated areas under the breed standard. For a dog to qualify to be a show dog, the standard must be there. It is not just bring any dog and register for the show. If the dog does not match the standard, it is an insult to the judges and indirectly an insult to the public.
Having said the above, a show dog is of top quality in terms of health, structures, coats, furnishing, movement and most importantly their temperament. I understand slightly more about the good temperament dog and truly I am truly impressed with the show dogs' temperament. They are just so sweet, focus and obedient. Most of them are easy to train provided the method of training is appropriate.
What is a show dog and why is there dog shows in the country?
Singapore Kennel Club runs 4 back to back dog shows per year. (ie there is 2 shows in one day).
One of the SKC's mission is to encourage and promote the keeping and breeding of purebred dogs and to improve their quality. The dog shows are open to public and is a chance to educate dog owners of their responsibilities, promote and encourage dog owners to obedience train their dogs.
