There are 2 important features to note about the system:

1. Challenge Certificate Classes
For Judging of a Challenge Certificate (C.C.) all unbeaten dogs are eligible and must be brought into the ring. The Challenge Certificate may be offered to the best dog if the judge feels that it is of sufficient merit.
Reserve Challenge Certificate
The remaining dogs stays in the ring for the judging of the Reserve Dog Challenge Certificate (R.C.C.). In addition, any other dog which has been beaten only by Challenge Certificate winner is eligible for the Reserve Challenge Certificate and must be brought into the ring.
Similar procedure follows for the bitches.
Judges must be reminded that: -
(i) A Challenge Certificate should only be awarded if the dog is considered to be worthy of merit and
(ii) In the cases of an Any Variety Not Seperately Classified Class, the judge is entitled to award a dog C.C. and R.C.C. and a bitch C.C and R.C.C. for each breed presented.

2. Best-Of-Breed Special
In breed classes, the 2 C.C. winners (dog & bitch) and in A.V.N.S.C. Classes the best of each sex compete for the Best of Breed.
For the Reserve Best of Breed, the R.C.C. winner to the Best of Breed is brought in to compete with the remaining candidate.
It is theoretically possible for the Best of Breed and the Reserve Best of Breed t be same of the sex eg the C.C. dog is the B.O.B. and the C.C. bitch is placed Reserve Best of Breed. It follows the above that these 2 (of the same breed and sex) could possible proceed through to Best In Show and Reserve Best In Show respectively.
