Housebreaking Facts

12 more days before my pup comes home. Is time to get up and clean up the crate and plan the housebreaking. I will be using the alumimium crate for confinement and at the same time, we want the pup to know that this crate will be his den where he can rest and stay safe when we are not at home.

I have done the housebreaking successfully for my previous schnauzer and I confident that things will go on smoothly. The success is due to my awareness of the following facts:

1. Puppies have limited bladder control.
2. Dogs & puppies like to be clean and to sleep in a clean area.
3. All dogs do best when kept to a routine schedule.
4. Dogs have to go poddy when they wake up, after their meals and before they go to sleep.

Here is a link to a good write on housebreaking. Another important point that why most people fail this important stage of dog ownership is they failed to keep their eyes on their pups. These people are watching their TV while the pup is running around freely in the house. Not able to catch them in the act of poddy and correcting their pups at the wrong time.
